Susan McAdoo Barr, 77, of Saucon Valley, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 9, 2013. Born on May 2, 1935 in Detroit, Michigan, she was the daughter of the late Joseph McAdoo and Jessie Colqhoun McAdoo. Susan was a graduate of Lower Merion High School and Louisiana State University, B.S. 1957. She was married in Bryn Mawr, PA on June 21, 1958 to Dr. Gavin Chaundy Barr, Sr. Susan was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Bethlehem, the Daughters of the American Revolution, Liberty Bell Chapter, the American Cancer Society, the Council of Republican Women, the Society of the Arts, Allentown Art Museum, Northampton County Medical Society Auxiliary, Lehigh County Medical Society Auxiliary, and the Channel 39 Board of Directors. Susan served as Executive Director of the Sun Inn Preservation Association for more than 15 years and was awarded the Bethlehem Area Chamber of Commerce's Athena Award for outstanding women in business. Susan is survived by her husband Dr. Gavin C. Barr; her four children, Susan Barr Hoffman, Jessie Paul (Andrew), Dr. Gavin C. Barr, Jr. (Maria), Bryce C. Barr (Diane) and her fifteen grandchildren, Jack, Meaghan, Andrew, William, Kathleen, Joe, Suzy, Gavin, Nolan, Grace, Augustine, Bryce, Teddy, William and Elizabeth. A memorial service for relatives and friends will be held at 10AM on Saturday, March 16th at the First Presbyterian Church of Bethlehem, 2344 Center St., Bethlehem, PA 18017. A calling hour will precede the service at 9AM at the church. A reception will follow the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Dr. Gavin C.
