Rudolph
Ampofo
November 28, 1952 – March 4, 2025
Rudolph Papa Nii Ampofo of Philadelphia passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on March 4, 2025. He was 72 years old. He was born in Adabraka, Accra, Ghana, on November 28, 1952, to the late Rev. Gilbert and Bridget (Awo) Ampofo. He was the beloved husband of Mercy Ampofo for 43 years.
Rudolph attended Ridge Church School and later Presbyterian Middle School (Osu) in Ghana as a child. After completing his secondary education at Winneba Secondary School, he pursued a degree in Biochemistry at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. After several years working for Agricare (Pfizer), he moved to the United States in 1991, earning a Master's in Business Administration from St. Joseph's University. Rudolph then joined Horizon House, Inc. in Philadelphia as a Program Specialist. In his 30 years at Horizon House, he dedicated himself to helping his clients with disabilities live full and independent lives. He recently retired as the Director of Service Coordination.
Rudolph's family was his pride and joy, especially his grandchildren, with whom he loved spending time, no matter how far away they were. He was an avid football (soccer) fan, loved listening to his collection of vinyl records, and was fascinated with electronics. He was passionate about fitness and healthy living and loved sharing tips with everyone he met. Above all, Rudolph will be remembered as a kind and generous person who welcomed everyone with warmth and a smile.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Sefakor Ampofo, Jorji Delali Ampofo, and Rudolph Papa Nii Mawusi Ampofo Jr.; daughters-in-law Tawia Apenteng, Marley Pitts Ampofo, and Efua Gambrah-Sampaney; seven grandchildren; four siblings, Celestine Noser, Kwame Ampofo, Elly Ohene-Adu, and Mawutor Ampofo; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Grace Emily Armah.
