Robert A. Kingman Smith, Jr.'s Obituary

Robert A. (Kingman) Smith, Jr. died October 12, 2015 in Philadelphia, PA. He was born on January 12, 1927 in Ridley Park, PA to Robert and Elda (Landis) Smith. He graduated from Ridley Park High School in 1944 and was drafted into the Army in February 1945. While preparing to go into the invasion of Japan, the War ended and he spent his remaining military time in the occupation of Korea. He graduated from the Philadelphia Museum School of Art in 1950 and later married Elizabeth Ely, now deceased. He worked for Ketterlinus Lithograph Co. and N.W. Ayer advertising in work dealing with Commercial Illustration. A gifted baritone, Kingman, as he was known, participated in the Philadelphia Opera Company Chorus for 25 years and was a soloist with Holy Communion Lutheran Church in the city. He did many other art song concerts. For the past 30 years he lived in the Academy House at 15th and Locust Sts. and for the past 15 years was a regular patron of Ruth's Chris Steak House on Broad Street. Robert is survived by his brother David (Lanny) Smith and wife, Jane of Newport News, VA, a niece, Jennifer Litterst of Washington, DC, a nephew, David Smith of Downingtown, Pa and their respective children.
