Patricia S. (Dunne) Topper, 83, of Philadelphia, died on Monday, January 20, 2014. She was the beloved wife of Joseph V. Topper, Sr. and loving mother to Mary Pat, Kathy, Joe, Margie, Ed, Connie, Ginny and Gerry. She gently passed away at home after spending the last few days surrounded by her children and her husband, Joe. She was at peace. Throughout her long illness, she never gave up and lived life every day, even getting out and about on a scooter with an oxygen tank when it became necessary! Make up, oxygen, scooter and she was out the door, showing us all that life was meant to be lived. Once putting her mind to it there was no stopping her and that is why she lived to just shy of 84, continuing to take care of her husband. His heart is broken and he will miss her terribly, but he is forever grateful for her love and devotion. She was known to her friends as Patsy and grew up in Narberth PA, graduating from Friends Central and Rosemont College. She decided to convert to Catholicism on her own at the age of 18 and shared her faith with her family and friends. She was a strong believer in the Power of Positive Thinking and Power in Praise. Raising her family and moving several times when Joe worked for Mobil Oil Corp., they eventually moved and decided to stay in Allentown, PA. With 8 children she jumped right in and became very involved as a member of St. Thomas More Parish where she and her husband participated in Marriage Encounter and Cursillo where she developed lifelong friends. She was a regular volunteer every Monday serving pizza while her children were in grade school. After her children were grown, she and Joe moved back to Philadelphia to create a full life living in the city. She settled into her new life filled with plenty of time for the things she wanted to do; traveling with her husband, knitting hats and scarves for all her children and grandchildren, reading and sharing her favorite authors, doing the crossword puzzle every day, lunching with her city friends and volunteering with the Auxiliary of Pennsylvania Hospital. She even managed the Bargain Shop at the Hospital, her first "job" in 60 years, and she loved it. She had a special place in her heart for "the shore". She loved spending time with her husband in Ocean City, NJ, reliving their first date at the Chatterbox. She shared her love for the shore by creating a second home there and many Easters were celebrated along with birthdays and anniversaries. So many good times, laughs and life lessons that were shared in those beach chairs at the 36th street beach will long be remembered by her family and friends! But most of all she was a loving mother and her children may spend the rest of their lives trying to figure out how she did it all. Patricia S.
