Mitchell A. Rosenfeld, 80, Philadelphia native and long-time resident of the area, died August 24 in Melbourne Beach, Fla., of natural causes. A Darby High School graduate, Mr. Rosenfeld earned his B.S. degree with honors at Temple University in 1950 after majoring in journalism. He is a veteran of the Korean conflict, serving with the U.S. Army 47th Infantry Division stationed at Camp Rucker, Ala. Mr. Rosenfeld was a reporter for the Chester Times, Philadelphia Daily News, and Philadelphia Bulletin. He also served as the first full-time director of public information in Montgomery County. From 1969 to 1985, Mr. Rosenfeld served as administrative assistant to U.S. Rep. Lawrence Coughlin. He retired from federal government service in 1989 as Deputy Administrator for Operations, Research and Special Programs Administration, U.S. Department of Transportation. Mr. Rosenfeld, an avid fisherman, was a member of the Jewish War Veterans Brevard County (Fla.) Post 639 and writer of the post's newsletter. He won the post's Veteran of the Year Award in 2006 and the Alan Law Memorial Service Award in 2005. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Emma Louise Rosenfeld; three children, Erik Rosenfeld, of Falls Church, Va.; Beth Rosenfeld, of Alexandria, Va.; and Steven Rosenfeld, of Las Vegas; and three grandchildren, Matthew, Sarah, and Hannah, all of Las Vegas.
