Mary Jontry of Philadelphia, peacefully and surrounded by her family, passed away on March 1, 2025 at the age of 103. Born December 11, 1921 in Jersey City. She was a Phi Beta Kappa at Rutgers University, where she earned her bachelor's degree. She later moved to New York City to work as a production director in the magazine and editorial industry. After retirement she moved to Philadelphia to be closer to her sister, Alice.
Mary will always be remembered as a devoted loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was always socially engaged, intellectually curious, artistically knowledgeable, and always put together. A true Bon Vivant. She was well traveled and fluent in French and in French cooking.
She was the daughter of the late Francis and Mary (Fitzgerald) McLaughlin, and the wife of the late Jerome Jontry, who died in 1992.
She is survived by her son, Jonathan Jontry of Cleveland, OH; brother-in-law, David Davis of Philadelphia, her grandchildren Griffin, Lily, Caleb, and her first great granddaughter, Raelynn. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her infant daughter, Aimee, sister, Alice Davis; and brothers, John W. and Frank, Jr.
She will be dearly missed by her friends at Fountain View in Philadelphia.
Funeral services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Arrangements entrusted to the Oliver H. Bair Funeral Home (610) 449-8585.
