Dr. Mary Catherine Glick, of Philadelphia, passed away in Penn Hospice at Rittenhouse on March 6, 2017. She was 91 years old. Born in Frackville, PA, she was the daughter of the late Albert Hower and Katherine (Sanner) Glick.
Dr. Glick was Professor Emerita of Pediatric Research at the University of Pennsylvania. She pioneered the field of terminal glycosylation of membrane glycoconjugates and their role in disease, specifically neuroblastoma, a deadly cancer in children, and cystic fibrosis, the most common fatal inherited disease in caucasians. She was the 2009 recipient of the Rosalind Kornfeld Award for Lifetime Achievement in Glycobiology, which honors scientists who have, over their professional lifetimes, made significant contributions with important impact on the field.
A private memorial service and burial will take place in Frackville, PA at a later date.
