Lynda Cloud-Weber's Obituary

Lynda Cloud Weber, age 59, passed away Thanksgiving morning, November 28, 2019, after 11 years of living life to its fullest with a diagnosis of cancer. At her side in her home in Queen Village when she passed were her family and her beloved black puggle Hope.

Lynda was born in Endicott, New York, on December 19, 1959, while Penn State was playing in the Liberty Bowl at the Philadelphia Municipal Stadium. Penn State beat Alabama by a score of 7-0. Needless to say, her father, a future Alumni Fellow of Penn State, was doubly pleased.

In 1974, she moved with her family to McLean, Virginia, where she attended Langley High School. In 1983, she graduated from Penn State, where she had studied architecture and graphic design. During her college years, she worked on the Penn State Collegian newspaper, was a member of the Alpha Omicron Pi sorority, and spent a semester studying architecture and making scones in Petworth, England.

Lynda's career as a graphic designer began at Marriott Hospitality. She later moved to Baltimore to work with RTKL, where she met her husband of 30 years, Anthony (Tony) Weber. In 1989, they married and moved to Florence, Italy, where she worked in pubblicita' for a number of renowned Florentine offices. Upon their return to the United States, they resettled in Philadelphia, where she worked in the field of environmental graphics for the architectural firms of Cope Linder Associates and Shapiro, Petrauskas, Gelber. Through this work, she became an often-sought consultant specializing in commercial and retail signage and graphics throughout the Philadelphia region.

She would later work in the field of higher education in print graphics for Holy Family University, Temple University, and finally the University of Pennsylvania, where she was the environmental graphic designer for the Office of the University Architect.

Lynda was a passionate and skilled pie maker and quilter, and she spent her happiest days clamming with her children and friends in the tidal flats of Chatham, Massachusetts. She also loved Cape Cod chowder and lobster pie, "The Sound of Music," Barack Obama, making pickles, library books, the Philadelphia mummers, Italy, Hugh Laurie, walking with Hope to Federal Donuts early on Sunday mornings, Twizzlers, and Kentucky Derby parties. She gave magical birthday presents, and her Christmas "surprise balls" were the piece de resistance of every holiday gathering. A friend described her as "sunshine in human form."

Lynda was a descendant of William Cloud, who came to America with William Penn and settled in the Delaware Valley. As her father before her, an avid genealogist, Lynda loved to explore her family's early history in Upper Chichester Township through her involvement with the Welcome Society of Pennsylvania, which perpetuates the memory of those who came to America in the company of William Penn.

She is survived by her husband, Tony Weber, of Philadelphia, her son Maxwell (Max) Harlan Weber of Durham, NC, her daughter Alessandra (Ali) Rose Weber of Philadelphia, her mother Donna Cloud and sister Sharon Hirschland, both of Charlottesville, VA, and her brother, Harley Terrie Cloud, of Charlotte, NC. Her father Harley Cloud and her older brother Terrie Carson predeceased her.

Lynda is also treasured by many nieces and nephews, a large extended family in Maysville, Kentucky, and many close friends in Philadelphia and around the world.

A memorial service to honor Lynda's life will be held Saturday, Dec. 7, at Christ Church in Old City, Philadelphia. Visitation will be from 8:30 AM to 9:45 AM. The service will start at 10 AM, with a reception immediately following at the church communal space until 1 PM.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish may consider a donation to the staff of Penn Medicine Hospice: https://giving.apps. upenn.edu/fund?program=MC& fund=843419&appeal=PMWEB . Truly, they are angels on earth without wings.
