L. Bertram "Bert" Hayes, of Philadelphia, PA, passed away on January 11, 2026, at the age of 76.

Born in Manhattan, New York, Bertram was the cherished son of the late Horace A. and Leola (née Hill) Hayes. To many, he was simply Bert; a name spoken with affection by friends and family who knew him for his wayward sense of humor and the infectious laugh that could fill a room.

Bert earned his bachelor's degree from Drexel University, a milestone that reflected his determination and quiet pride. He carried that same spirit into the life he built; one marked by fierce independence, generosity, and a deep appreciation for the world around him. He loved to travel, especially to the islands, where he found joy in warm breezes, open skies, and the sense of freedom that came with exploring new places.

At home, Bert devoted himself to mentoring young children, offering guidance, encouragement, and a steady presence that shaped their lives. He had a gift for making others feel seen, comfortable and supported, and his wisdom and influence extended not only to each child but often to their parents and/or caretakers. He also took great pride in his car, caring for it with the same enthusiasm he brought to the people and independence he cherished.

Bert is survived by his sister, Cassandra Hayes; his significant other, Eva Burrell Hayes; his brother‑in‑law, Robert; numerous cousins, dear friends, and coworkers, who will miss him deeply and remember him with love.
