Joseph McEntee died at age 92 at his home in Warminster, Pa. on January 2, 2025. Joe was also a resident of Newcastle/Damariscotta, Maine. Joe is survived by numerous cousins on both sides of his family
Joe attended St. Joe's Prep and was awarded a scholarship to Drexel University, graduating with honors.
Following his graduation from Drexel, Joe served in the US Navy for over four years and held the rank of full Lieutenant on discharge. In his military career Joe was a cryptographer and an instructor in the Navy's Atomic, Biological and Chemical Warfare Defense School for Naval officers.
After the Navy Joe worked for the Philadelphia National Bank on the 5PM to 1AM shift supervising the conversion of the check processing system from a manual to the new computer systems. This evening work schedule allowed Joe to attend the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School during the day in pursuit of an MBA in Finance. He graduated with honors from Wharton.
During the following 19 years, Joe worked in numerous senior management positions for several companies including Plant Controller at Corning Glass Works. Controller at both Master Card and Omniswitch, Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice-President at Parade Publications, President of Diversified Printing, and President and Founder of Diversified Imaging. Joe retired at age 53.
After his business experience in corporate management, Joe attended the Restaurant School in Philadelphia and received an associate's degree in culinary management.
At age 65, Joe relocated to Newcastle, Maine to purchase an 1830's Sea-Captain's home converting it to a Bed and Breakfast. After six months of restoration, The Harbor View Inn opened in 1996 and continued operations until 2010. Joe then retired, dividing his days between Maine and Pennsylvania.
Music played an important role at various times in Joe's life. He first expressed an interest in music at the age of six when he began studying the violin and continued studying the violin until high school. He switched to the drums and percussion instruments playing in the St. Joe's Prep's marching and concert bands. Over twenty years later in the 1970's and 80's, Joe returned to his music studies, this time on the piano and began writing music. In the 80's Joe took up the Harp which he frequently introduced into his Bed and Breakfast business. Joe took up the Harp which he later introduced regularly into his Bed and Breakfast business when he lived in Maine.
Following his career in corporate business, Joe resigned to attend culinary management courses at the Restaurant School in Philadelphia. He worked in numerous cooking jobs and ultimately ended as Executive Vice President of the Frog Commissary operations at Shooting Stars working for Steve Poses and the largest food management operation in the Delaware Valley including numerous restaurants and the largest off-premises catering business in the Delaware Valley.
Relatives and friends are invited to Joe's viewing on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 from 10:00am to 11:00am at Nativity of Our Lord Church, 605 Street Rd, Warminster, PA 18974. A funeral Mass will follow in the church at 11:00am. Interment with military honors will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Yeadon. Funeral arrangements entrusted to The Oliver H. Bair Co. (610) 449-8585
