James Henry Wilkes, 95, of Gladwyne, passed away on December 2, 2011. He was the loving husband of the late Janet Ellen Elsroad Wilkes who died in 1998. Mr. Wilkes is survived by his two sons, James S. and his wife Bonnie, of Devon, PA, Scott B. and his wife Barbara, of Bethlehem, PA, his daughter, Susan W. and her husband Henry Walker of Lititz, PA, eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Born on January 5, 1916 in Philadelphia, he graduated from Upper Darby High School(1934), Phillips Exeter Academy(1935), and Princeton University(1939). His business career was spent entirely in the milk and dairy industry. His first employmenet was with the Turner & Wescott Company of Philadelphia starting in 1939. He retired in 1979 as National Director of Marketing for the Sealtest Division of National Dairy Products Corporation (now Phillips Morris Food Division). He and his family lived in Wayne for 50 years and have enjoyed their family cottage in Buck Hill Falls for over three decades. He had extensive community involvement as President of the Tri-County Health & Welfare Council, member of the Executive Committee of the Philadelphia United Fund, member of the Advisory Council to the Philadelphia Commission on Human Relations and the Mayor's Committee on Tuberculosis. He was a member of the Wayne Presbyterian Church and served as Elder and President of the Board of Trustees for many years. He belonged to the Merion Cricket Club and the Union League of Philadelphia. He has resided happily at Waverly Heights in Gladwyne for the last 11 years and will be greatly missed by his adoring family. A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 9, 2011 at 11AM at Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church, 625 Montgomery Ave., Bryn Mawr. Interment will follow in Arlington Cemetery, Drexel Hill. In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances may be made to the United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania, 1709 Benjamin Franklin Parkway, Philadelphia, PA 19103-1294.
