Horace Alexander Hayes, 90, of Haverford, passed away on Thursday, August 25, 2011 at Brandywine Senior Living. Born in Henderson, North Carolina, he was the loving husband of the late Leola (Hill) Hayes. Horace began his college education at St Paul's and dropped out to join the army during World War II. After serving for four years he was honorably discharged and returned to finish his education. Mr. Hayes received his undergraduate and Master's degrees from West Virginia State and New York University respectively. He went on to work as an educator for many years later as a guidance counselor. Horace and Leola took education very seriously and were responsible for many successful college graduates who went on to have important careers. Mr. Hayes is survived by his two children Bertram Hayes of Philadelphia, Cassandra Hayes of Upper Darby and Dorothy (Hayes) Vance his sister. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 1, 2011 at 4PM at The Oliver H. Bair Funeral Chapel, 8500 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby.
