Gladys Ward, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 14, 2021 in her 99 th year, at the Hopkins Center, after an extended illness.
Gladys was born, October 4, 1922 in Pocomoke City, Maryland, to the late Samuel James and Mary Jane (Holden) Trader. Gladys moved to Philadelphia where she met and married her late husband, William A. Ward, Sr. From this loving union, three children were born, William A. Ward, Jr., Phyllis Ward, and Carl Clifford Ward, Sr.
Gladys was a caring and devoted wife and mother. After raising her three children, Gladys decided to explore work outside of the home. She found a position as an elevator operator working for the Philadelphia Board of Education. She truly found joy and fulfillment in her work with the educators and children. She would eventually go on to retire from this position in 1989. Her hobbies included gardening, pinochle, cooking, and spending time with her friends and family.
Gladys leaves to cherish her memories, a daughter, Phyllis Ward, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; sister, Hallie Whitaker; granddaughters, Kimberly Ward, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Dayna Morris, of Salisbury, Maryland; and Carmen Williams (Linwood) of Monticello, New York; great-grandchildren, Douglas, Kayla, Gia, Dominique, Ashley, Alyssa, Amber, and Aaron, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Gladys was preceded in death by her two sons, William A. Ward, Jr.; Carl C. Ward, Sr., grandson, Carl C. Ward, Jr., and sister, Marie Weldon.
Relatives and friends are invited to a graveside service on Saturday, November 20, 2021 at 10:00 AM in White Chapel Memorial Park, 140 Street Rd, Feasterville-Trevose, PA 19053. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Gladys' memory to the Alzheimer's Association: https://act.alz.org/donate .

There are no tears in Heaven, nor grief of any kind, I leave this final teardrop, to those I've left behind.
Though absent from the body, I'm present with the Lord, the joy of my salvation, is now my full reward.
