George Edward Moore's Obituary

It is with sad hearts that we announce the death of George E. Moore on Sunday, March 2, 2014 at the age of 67. George died peacefully at home surrounded by his family, after a long battle with cancer. George was born in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania where he lived throughout his teen years. He then attended Dartmouth College (B.A. 1968) and Temple Law School (J.D. 1976). He has lived in the Philadelphia area since the early 1970's. Since 1989, George served as University Counsel of Temple University and also as Secretary to the Board of Trustees since 1992. In 2007, he was named Sr. Vice President. George was an Adjunct Professor at the James E. Beasley School of Law from 1990 to 2007. He is a Director and Corporate Secretary of the Temple Law Foundation and Temple Educational Support Services, Ltd. George was a staunch supporter of all Temple athletics and at basketball games his voice could be heard throughout the arena as he expressed his opinions on the action. Prior to coming to Temple, George spent 13 years in private practice as an associate and partner with Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll, LLP. George devoted much time and energy to his professional life, but his heart clearly belonged with his family. He adored his four children - Emily, Jenna, Sam and Nick, and his wife, Jennifer. George is survived by his sister and brother -in-law Susan and Jim Legge; his sister Cammy Richards; his sister and brother-in-law Diane Moore and Joel Sax and his brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Susie Moore of Punxsutawney, Pa.; and three nieces, Sarah Legge, Rachel Richards and Meredith Moore. George was a man of many interests and talents. To name a few, he loved music and was passionate about discovering new bands. He loved playing golf, despite his incurable slice. George hosted Temple tailgate parties prior to each home game, introducing the world to his infamous cheese sausages. George loved good food and good wines - and enjoyed both as often as possible. In reference to his wine consumption he once said, "You may enjoy life more if you experiment liberally." As a dear friend said recently, "George was a wonderful grand funny big kind brilliant man." And that is how we will remember him. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, March 9 at 4:00 p.m. at the Temple University Performing Arts Center located at 1837 N. Broad Street, Philadelphia, Pa. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Temple University in memory of George Moore.
