Erich W. Ploppa, Sr., of Havertown, passed away in his home on Monday, January 18, 2016.  He was 75 years old.  Born in Krapkowice , Poland, he was the beloved husband of Lorraine Sabatino Ploppa.  He was also the son of the late Erich A. and Elizabeth (Deszczka) Ploppa.

Erich came to the United States at the age of 15 and joined the United States Army when he was 17.  He proudly served in the 82nd Airborne and Radar Corps for 6.5 years.  He worked for Otis Elevator for 40 years, retiring in 2003.  He was also a member of Elevator Constructors Local #5.  He was also an avid bicycle rider, commuting to Center City for years and riding to Rehoboth Beach for family vacations.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Lori McWilliams (Jim), of West Grove; son, Erich W. Ploppa, Jr., of Havertown; and three grandchildren, Allison Burns (Tom); Sean McWilliams (Jackie); and Benjamin Ploppa.

A viewing and visitation with the family will be held on Monday, January 25, 2016 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at The Oliver H. Bair Funeral Chapel, 8500 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby, PA 19082.  A Funeral Service will be held at 6:00 PM in the Chapel.  Interment will be private.  In lieu of flowers, contributions are requested to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, 230 East Ohio Street, Suite 304, Chicago, Illinois 60611-3201.
