Edward Joseph Zimany, Jr. of Maris Grove in Glen Mills passed away peacefully with his family by his side on May 14, 2025. He was 87 years old.  Born in New York, NY, he was the son of the late Josephine Alice (Osthemier) and Edward Joseph Zimany, Sr. and beloved husband of Iris (Simpson) Zimany.

Edward proudly served in the United States Navy and worked as an engineer for Bell Labs and AT&T until his retirement.  He served on the team at Bell Labs, later AT&T, that developed the ground-breaking invention of charge-coupled devices into imaging applications in the 1970s.  This work led to the creation of the first all solid-state color television cameras and technology that transformed the fields of communications, photography, and entertainment.  Edward is credited as an inventor on multiple United States patents both individually and with his colleagues.

He and his wife resided in New Jersey for 34 years and retired to Eastern Maryland, where they shared many special memories.  In 2021, they relocated to Maris Grove Senior Living Community. Edward loved square and ballroom dancing, which he enjoyed with his wife for more than 30 years.  He was also an avid gardener and bowler.

In addition to his wife, Iris, he is survived by his daughter, Valerie Zimany of Central, SC; his son, Martin Zimany of Collegeville, PA; four grandchildren, Kiah Zimany, Ryland Zimany, Taegan Zimany, and Aengus Bare; sister, June Naclerio; and brother, Robert Zimany.

A memorial service and interment in Washington Crossing National Cemetery will be planned at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Edward's name are requested to Disabled American Veterans (DAV).  Arrangements entrusted to The Oliver H. Bair Co. (610) 449-8585.
