Born in Phila., PA, he was the son of the late Albert and Gertrude (Saybolt) Mercer. Mr. Mercer was a devoted father and retired Sales Manager who worked in the manufacturing industry. In World War II, Mr. Mercer entered the US Army in 1943 and earned the rank of Captain serving as a Unit Commander. Besides his wife, Mr. Barlow is survived by his daughter, Judith J. (Herbert) Newman of Bayville, NJ, two sons, Edward S. (Janet) Mercer, Jr. of Wilmington, DE and Sam L. Mercer of Arcadia, FL, four Grandchildren, David Datlof of Manchester, NJ and Richard Hicks, Douglas Clifford and William Tuggle, all of Phila. Pa., sister, Elaine Jones and brother, Byron (Dot) Mercer, both of Ocean City, NJ. Mr. Mercer is also pre-deceased by his first wife, Verna (Stafford) Mercer, to whom he was married for 32 years.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 AM on Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at the Doylestown Presbyterian Church, 127 E. Court St., Doylestown, PA.
