Doreen Lucchesi's Obituary

Doreen Mamie (Thompson) Lucchesi passed away peacefully at Penn Hospice at Rittenhouse on Monday, June 3, 2013. She was 54 years old. Born October 3, 1958 in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of Lovick and Evelyn (Hughes) Thompson. Prior to marrying, Doreen dated John (Jack) Lucchesi for 10 years before joining in holy matrimony on August 1,1992 at Holsey Temple CME Church. Doreen is the beloved wife of John Lucchesi for 21 years. Doreen was educated in the Philadelphia school system, attended Community College of Philadelphia and began her career as a health care administrator. Over time, Doreen was forced to leave her place of employment at Griswald Special Care as Home Care Coordinator to begin her full-time battle with Scleroderma which began 13 years ago. While home on disability, she earned her certification in medical coding and billing from Anthem Institute as she waited to receive a double lung transplant. Doreen was in high favor to receive a double lung transplant in August of 2009; still Doreen 's challenges with Scleroderma continued. This disease did not stop her from traveling, perfecting her culinary skills and bringing family and friends together to celebrate life. Doreen loved God and was an active member of Holsey Temple CME Church. She was a member of the Inspirational and Genesis choirs and was known for her strong soprano voice. Doreen actively participated on committees and shared her love for baking and arts and crafts at special events held at the church throughout the year. Doreen embraced the world with her own style. She loved life. Her passion for cooking, gardening, music, arts and crafts, traveling, and nurturing the spirits of those who came into her presence was her primary focus. She will forever be remembered for the many ways she unconditionally loved and embraced life, family and friends. She will always be remembered for her smile, jokes, and ability to welcome and nurture those who entered into her life. She comforted the souls of many family members and friends. We will never forget her spirit and how she touched each of our hearts in very special ways. Throughout her life Doreen enjoyed traveling, cooking and having a good time with family and friends. She welcomed people into her home and shared her cooking talents with those who visited her. As her battle with Scleroderma progressed, Doreen fought harder to maintain the lifestyle she desired to live. Family members and friends and the doctors and nurses who got to know her throughout the years were rewarded with bake goods during the holidays in exchange for her health and appreciation for life. Doreen's faith was strong and so was her fight to enjoy life until God ended the battle. Doreen completed her journey on this earth and will be missed by the many lives she touched during her stay on this earth. Throughout her journey she embraced every day as if it was the first day of her life and she left a legacy that taught us that we are not limited by our physical conditions, but only by what we believe. Doreen believed that the only limitation greater than herself was that of the Lord. Doreen is survived by her husband, John Lucchesi, her daughter, Tisa Thompson Bradley, son-in-law, Zane Bradley, and grandson, Zane Bradley, Jr. She leaves to cherish her memory: brothers, Wayne Adderly, Alvin Hughes, Carl and Timothy Thompson; sisters, Vivian(Kutia)Thompson, and Olivia(Helen)Campbell. Preceding her in death, her parents Lovick and Evelyn Thompson and brothers Gregory and Albert Thompson. Doreen leaves behind in-laws, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dedicated friends who will forever love her and celebrate her life.
