Donald L. Henninger passed away on November 29, 2017 at Manor Care Health Services in Pottstown. Born in Ashland, PA on June 25, 1931, he was the son of the late Leroy and Mary (Brosius) Henninger.
Don grew up in Lavelle, PA and was a 1949 graduate of Butler Township High School, where he pitched and played first base on the baseball team. After high school he tried out for the Philadelphia Athletics. He was a sergeant in the U. S. Army during the Korean War, and married his first wife, Dolores, while stationed at Fort Knox, KY in 1953. He and Dolores settled in Fairless Hills, PA, where they raised their 5 children, and Dolores passed away in 1988.
Don married his 2nd wife, Barbara in 1989 and they moved to Leesburg, FL where they lived until 2015 when they moved to Gilbertsville, PA to live with Barbara's daughter, Joann. Don lived in Manor Care for the past year until his death.
Don worked for many years as a machinist. He enjoyed telling jokes and working on cars, and was a Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles fan.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Dolores (Mazeika) Henninger, his sister and brother-in-law Larue & William James, daughters Amy Henninger and Donna Flippo, and son Paul Henninger.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Kieffer) Henninger of Gilbertsville; son Frank Henninger (Melody) of Kimberton; daughter Janet Keuper (Scott) of Landisville; son-in-law Gary Flippo of Nevada; stepson William Kerth of Florida; stepdaughter Joann Genovese (Tony) of Gilbertsville; grandsons Matthew Henninger (Juliet), Jonathan Henninger (Denise), David Henninger, and James Norman; granddaughters Erin Fike (Brian) and Ashley Norman; and great-grandsons Lukas and Jaiden.
A memorial service with military honors will be held on Tuesday, December 5 at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, starting at 11:30 AM. Friends and family members are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent to the Chester County Food Bank, 650 Pennsylvania Drive, Exton, PA 19341.
