Charlene Ruth Hobbs of Wyncote and formerly of Philadelphia passed away peacefully on April 19, 2025 at the age of 70.  Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Huston and Irene (Gilliam) Hobbs.

Charlene was a graduate of Strawberry Mansion High School in Philadelphia and later worked in housekeeping for a bank and as a homemaker.

She married the late George Burgess and from that union, they had their children, Syreeta Burgess of Virginia and Leon Burgess of South Carolina.  Charlene was an incredible, loving mother, grandmother, sister, and auntie.  She was funny, generous, and caring to everyone who crossed her path.  In the words of her twin sister, Carlene, the sincerity of Charlene's life made a difference to us all.

In addition to her children, Syreeta and Leon, she leaves to cherish her memory, five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, seven siblings, Carlene Hobbs, David Hobbs, Loucinda Hobbs, James Hobbs, Carolyn Cerdan, Geraldine Hobbs, and Belinda Prevail; and numerous nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her stepbrother, Charles Hobbs.

Relatives and friends are invited to a memorial service on Thursday, April 24, 2025 at 11:00 AM at The Oliver H. Bair Funeral Home, 8500 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby, PA 19082.  Interment will immediately follow in the adjoining Montrose Cemetery.
