Ann M. Herring's Obituary

Ann M. (Ezell Birney) Herring, of Glen Mills, passed away on February 19, 2020. She was 75 years old. Born in Upland, PA to the late George and Pearl (Porter) Ezell, she was the loving wife of Larry Herring, Jr.

Ann resided in Delaware County before moving to Pitman, NJ in 1973. She returned to Pennsylvania in 1993 residing in Middletown Township until 2000. She graduated from Eddystone HIgh School in 1962 and Germantown Hospital School of Nursing in Philadelphia in 1965. She earned her Bachelor's degree in nursing from Hahnemann University in 1980 and Master's degree in community health nursing from the University of Pennsylvania in 1988.

Ann was employed by Crozer Hospital before moving to New Jersey, where she worked in several hospitals over the years. She served as Clinical Instructor for Cumberland County Community College, Rutgers University, Our Lady of Lourdes, and Helene Fuld School of Nursing. She retired from Widener University School of Nursing in 2006 as Director of Special Programs after 16 years.

She was an active member of Lima United Methodist Church in Lima, PA. She served as the church historian since 2003. She was also a member of the Board of Directors of Lutheran Knolls in Boothwyn since 1994 and served as President of the Board since 2001. She was also Vice President of the Middletown Friends of the Library.

Ann was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. In addition to her husband, Larry, she will be dearly missed by her son, Alan Birney (Lori), of Middletown Township; grandson AJ Birney, of Middletown Township; brother, John Ezell, of Eugene, Oregon; sister, Dorothy Briggs, of Texas; stepchildren, Cindy Roam, Nancy Scarpato (Frank), and Larry Herring, III (Dana); step grandchildren, John, Brian, DeLaney, and Carter; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 36 years, Jack Birney; son, L. Scott Birney; and brother, Jerry Ezell.

Memorial services will be private at the request of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ann's name are requested to the Memorial Fund at Lima UM Church, PO Box 158, Lima, PA 19037, or the charity of your choice.
