Adele P. Openshaw's Obituary

Adele P. (Pope) Openshaw, 96, of Riddle Village, previously of Springfield, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2018.  She was the beloved wife of the late Albert C. Openshaw, to whom she was married for 69 years.

Adele was a graduate of Glen-Nor High School and turned down a full scholarship to West Chester University to start working to help her family earn money at the end of the Depression. Adele was proud of the family that she and Al created, often reminding others that they met in the first grade. She remained devoted to those in her life, proud of her children and grandchildren, and thrilled with her great-grandchildren. Adele's natural compassion translated into a love of animals, often saving injured animals and nurturing a few wild birds along the way.

She is survived by her sister, Lorraine Barth; daughter, Joyce Wolf (Tom), of Media; son, Albert M. (Caryl), of Lake George, MN; four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, as well as cousins, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at the Church of the Redeemer, 145 W. Springfield Rd, Springfield, PA 19064. A calling hour will begin at 10am and a service will follow at 11am.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to: Church of the Redeemer, 145 W. Springfield Rd, Springfield, PA 19064 or Heartland Hospice, 5 Christy Drive, Brandywine #2, Suite 103, Chadds Ford, PA 19317.
